Prerequisite for grinding

During grinding, the spindle must rotate without a clamped tool and with the door of the machining centre open.

Before grinding, the tool clamping force (drawbar force) must meet the specifications of the CNC machining centre manufacturer. After the taper has been ground, its roundness is measured. If the taper is oval rather than round, the cause is worn spindle bearings. Because of either of these two causes, tool runout may be outside the manufacturer's tolerances (depending on the bearing wear and the clamping force), or it may be within tolerance despite the wear. In either case, the service is deemed to have been performed and is payable in full. If the runout is not within tolerance, a complete spindle overhaul is required after the service.
